For Fernandez, Pacquiao still has a long journey to go; inside and outside the ring. The eight-division champion has an upcoming match with Keith Thurman at the MGM Grand Arena on July 20 (July 21 Manila time).

Fernandez also added that he wants to see Pacquiao occupy the highest seat in the country. He shared he needs to control his temper and be careful with everything he says because it might affect Pacquiao.

Speaking in Filipino, Fernandez was quoted by Inquirer saying, “I want to be careful because I still want to see him become the president.”

Back in 2017, during Pacquiao’s 39th birthday party, President Rodrigo Duterte said he wants to make him a president.

Duterte as a guest, praised Pacquiao for serving as an inspiration to many. He said, “You have brought so much pride and joy for being a world boxer. Worthy of emulation by our countrymen. As a senator, you are a true leader.”

“Yong style mo na ‘yan gusto kitang gawing presidente,” Duterte added.

Pacquiao still finds it amazing that a “poor boy” from General Santos City has become a leader and a world champion.

He said during his birthday speech, “Who would have thought that a poor boy from GenSan will become a world boxing champion and now a senator,” Pacquiao said.

“I want to be an inspiration to everyone, huwag sumuko! Huwag mawalan ng pag-asa because God has plans for you,” he added.
