For Christian Bautista, it is best if we learn to respect differing opinions.
This was the singer’s reaction on the criticisms hurled against ABS-CBN’s singing reality show ‘Idol Philippines’ judges.
Christian was a product of singing competition ABS-CBN’s Star in a Million in 2003. After securing his spot in showbiz, he later on earned a spot as a judge in two GMA’s singing competitions, Superstar Duets in 2016 and The Clash in 2018.
Based on his experience as a judge of a singing contest, Chrisitain shared they usually have a meeting before the show’s run.
Christian shared with Pep, “Before a show comes in, there is, like, a meeting, ‘What are we looking for? What do we need in the show?’”
The ‘Idol Philippines’ came under fire as many netizens questioned the credibility of the judges. Aside from Regine Velasquez, other judges include Vice Ganda, James Reid and Moira Dela Torre.
Many netizens complained that the judges seem to be choosing looks over talent.
When asked for his opinion on the critics, Christian said, “My answer will come from what we did in The Clash. Pagalingan talaga kayo ng kantahan on that stage.”
“Kaya yung top 5 na nakuha sa The Clash, magaling lahat talaga sila kumanta. They can beat me, man! Parang, they are so good. So I look at the talent first,” he explained.
Christian went on to explain that most of the time, it’s social media that blows things up.
“So siyempre, iba-iba ‘yung tastes, iba-iba ‘yung judge. Iba din ‘yung taste ng tao,” he said.
“Yun ding comment ng ibang tao, hindi rin naman ‘yun ‘yung majority ng opinyon ng lahat. Meron din ibang tao kampi sa specific judge or kampi sa… which just blew up really because of social media,” Christian added.
Aside from Christian, several celebrities and singers have shared their opinion. Director Joey Reyes, Bituin Escalante and JK Labajo have aired their sentiments regarding the show.
