Who says you need to go to outside the country to see Cherry blossoms?
A version of those famous Sakura sites in Japan or in Korea can now be seen in the Philippines.
It has been discovered in Malungon, Sarangani, which shows off Cherry blossoms-like trees that are slowly emerging as a summer destination.
The trees may not be the same as the popular attraction in Asia but it gives the same vibe and look.
Some photographs of travelers have been starting to circulate on social media; showing how similar it is from those blossoms seen in Japan and Korea.
According to a travel blog, the trees are called Tabebuia Tree, which greatly resembles the famed Sakura trees with its vibrant pink to white flowers.
“It blooms only during summer from late March to April. Although its flower is a bit bigger in size compared to Sakura, the clusters of it though is still as beautiful,” the blog shared.
Traveler Almin Abejaron, who have also visited the place, said that it really looks very similar to Japan’s and Korea’s Cherry blossoms.
“Pareho lang ‘yong feeling. Seasonal din ito. Once a year lang, during summer, ‘yong bloom niya. Same yong blooming time in Japan. Ilang araw lang din yong bloom nya. So catch it ‘til it last,” she said.
There are actually several locations in Malungon where the blossoms can be found.
One spot is in Barangay Malalag Cogon just along the Digos- Makar Road. It is a 10-minute drive away from Malungon Public Market and Terminal.
Another spot is located in Barangay Upper Mainit, Malungon near Poblacion.
There are also Tabebuia Tress in Sitio Pulatana, Malandag, Malungon, along National Highway and in Sitio Dalangdang, Nagpan, Malungon also along National Highway, where you can buy seedlings.
Abejaron said simply ask the locals and they will lead you to the Tabebuia spots.
