For Kai Sotto, the road to an NBA dream begins.
The 7-foot-2 Ateneo standout has decided to follow the path to his NBA dream career as he announced Monday on his Instagram account that he will soon leave the country and start a full-time training overseas.
“Nakapag-decide na po ako at ang pamilya ko. I’ll be leaving soon to start training full-time,” the 16-year-old basketball star stated in a short but promising note he posted on his account.
His decision on whether to pass or to give an NBA journey a try has been highly-anticipated in the basketball community; not just in the Philippines but internationally as various clubs in Europe had previously expressed interest in him.
Sotto bared that after assessing all the opportunities presented to him with the advice of his dad and other experienced mentors, he feels that leaving immediately to start his training and getting the right exposure will greatly help him realize his dream.
He furthered that he wants to “devote the next two to three years to single-mindedly focus” on his goal in joining the big league by 2021 or 2022.
“Pinag-isipan ko po ito nang mabuti. I will train hard and sacrifice and focus in the next few years so that one day soon, you will be very proud of me,” Sotto vowed.
He, however, did not mention which club or country he will be training with.
His decision, Sotto added, is for his future, his family’s, and especially for the Batang Gilas, Gilas Pilipinas, and for the nation.
As he ended his message, he thanked the Ateneo community and his supporters and asked them to continue supporting him.
Sotto was recently named as the UAAP Season 81 Juniors Most Valuable Player as he led the Blue Eaglets to a runner-up finish in his third year.
