James Reid defended himself against critics saying he doesn’t deserve to be one of the judges of the newest singing contest, Idol Philippines.
After ABS-CBN announced that Regine Velasquez will be a judge in the newest reality singing contest, three more judges were revealed just last week. The three judges named were Vice Ganda, James Reid, and Moira dela Torre.
The announcement led to a barrage of comments and suggestions on the choice of judges. Of the four judges, only Vice Ganda has experience as a jury on a talent search. He was part of the first season of “Pinoy Boyband Superstar,” and was in two seasons of “Pilipinas Got Talent.”
Reid admitted he is aware that there are those questioning if he is credible enough to be a singing contest judge. He said, “I don’t want to look at the comments — but I’m sure I already know what they’re saying.”
The singer-songwriter and even music producer said he is confident of his achievements. Reid said, “I had my own insecurities before I was tapped to become a judge in ‘Idol.’ But they got me for a reason … I made it in my own field in showbiz.”
Reid brushed off the negativities and said, “I have my own opinion, and they’re entitled to theirs.”
Bill Crawford, the host of Idol Philippines, also came to his colleague’s defense. He earlier said, “They have my full support. What’s important is we have to be proud of our own talents. People need to stop, look at themselves in the mirror and ask, ‘Perfect ba tayo?’”
Even Vice Ganda shared a few words to his co-host Moira’s apprehensions as ‘Idol’ judge. He told her, “Kahit ano’ng sabihin natin, maaaring magustuhan nila o hindi, so might as well judge from our hearts. Kung ano ‘yung sinasabi ng puso natin, iyon na ang sabihin natin, huwag na tayo mang-echos.”
