Reelectionist Senator Nancy Binay admitted that she doesn’t find anything offensive with memes of her and Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray. On the contrary, she finds them entertaining.
During the recent courtesy call of Gray at the Senate, Binay was seated next to the beauty queen for a pictorial. Soon, these photos of Gray and Binay have been edited and created into memes by netizens. The memes quickly spread like wildfire online as netizens shared a good laugh.
Binay admitted that the memes entertained her and didn’t offend her at all. She was quoted by Manila Bulletin saying, “Entertained nga ako eh. Entertained na entertained ako dun sa mga ginawa nilang meme.”
Asked if the memes can help boost her popularity in the upcoming May elections, Binay said those memes are not bad publicity for her.
She said, “Sa akin, so far it’s good because I’m doing well in the surveys. On my part, I shouldn’t consider the memes as bad publicity.”
“The ‘bad publicity’ sometimes becomes something good for me, so I hope this continues,” Binay added.
The senatoriable admitted that being used as a meme had often helped her reach the masses more. Binay said, “Natatanggap ko ‘yung feedback, kapag bumababa ako, number one comment (nila) ang simple ko daw, kamukha ko lang sila.”
“I guess dun mag-e-evolve ang campaign ko, that I’m not special. I’m just like you,” she added.
Gray received Senate Resolution No. 140 for her winning the Miss Universe crown. Aside from Binay, Senate President Vicente Sotto III and Sen. Gregorio Honasan II were at the Senate to personally award her.
