Makati City to donate P22.75M to areas ravaged by Typhoon Ompong

Makati Mayor Abby Binay confirmed that their local government unit will provide financial assistance to provinces that have been badly hit by the Typhoon Ompong.

Mayor Binay passed City Ordinance No. 2018-102 appropriating as much as as P22,750,000 to 18 provinces and 34 cities and municipalities earlier declared to be under a “state of calamity” due to Typhoon Ompong. The said amount will be used for the rehabilitation and recovery programs of the ravaged areas.

Mayor Binay said, “We would like to help out fellow local government units with their efforts to recover from the severe damage inflicted by Ompong. We hope our donations can somehow alleviate the plight of the victims.”

Under the said city ordinance, Makati allocated P8,250,000 for selected provinces in Regions I, II, III and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). Meantime, for the 34 cities and municipalities in the said regions, the city has appropriated P14,500,000.

Following the guidelines for financial assistance to disaster-affected areas in the country, adopted through City Ordinance No. 2017-006, the Makati Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) approved a maximum of P500,000 financial assistance to affected provinces with at least 5,001 or higher number of affected families. For those with at least 2,000 to 5,000 affected families, P250,000 will be given.
