The University of the Philippines Los Banos Choral Ensemble bested five other competing international choral groups last July 21 during the contest that was hosted by the Philippines and held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

The 30-member choir, conducted by Roijin Suarez, brought home to Los Banos, Laguna the Kilapsaw Trophy designed by Filipino artist Toym Imao and a $6,000 cash prize.

“Mission accomplished!” the group said on its Facebook page when they announced on July 22 their victory. “We are bringing the Asia Choral Grand Prix trophy home to Los Baños!” They added that they were pumped up the whole performance as they felt the overwhelming support of Filipinos at the venue.

“It was an electrifying experience as the roar of the Filipino audience greeted us as we entered the stage. We share this victory to our families, friends and the whole Filipino choral community! To God be the greatest honor and glory! Mabuhay ang Korong Pilipino!” the winning group continued.
