Heart Evangelista shared on her latest vlog her father’s famous Pata Tim.
Heart was joined by her dad Reynaldo Ongpauco and sister Mich as they whipped up some yummy food.
Heart’s dad, Rey, is one of the owners of Barrio Fiesta; one of the oldest Filipino restaurant chains in the country.
Daddy Rey revealed his love for cooking was influenced by his own mother and began when he was very young.
Later on, he left home and went to the United States. There, he worked as a waiter and a cook in a restaurant in Beverly Hills, California.
Afterwards, he decided to pursue his dream of opening his own restaurant. Daddy Rey finally spot the jackpot with his Filipino food and his restaurant expanded in many areas in California.
When asked what advice he could give to aspiring restaurateurs, Daddy Rey said, “Mahirap ang restaurant talaga pero kapag gusto mo mag-restaurant kailangan magbabantay ka everyday. Hindi pwede ibigay mo lang sa [manager].”
Heart also shared she basically grew up in their restaurant in Pasay when she was little. Cooking and eating were naturally a part of their lives, she said
Talking about his popular Pata Tim, Daddy Rey revealed it isn’t his favorite dish. “I mean I like it but it takes so long to cook,” he said.
The recipe called for the following ingredients: Pata, water, soy sauce, sugar, whole button mushrooms, hard boiled eggs, powdered seasoning, laurel leaves, pork cubes and garlic.
The key, they said, was to make the Pata super tender.
Heart’s sister Mich suggested to those who don’t know how to cook but want to learn can first work on some eggs and something simple like pasta or spaghetti.
