Did the producers of the top-rating primetime series Ang Probinsyano get inspiration from the Japanese manga series Kakegurui?

“There’s already a live action in the Philippines!,” a fan reacted on Facebook; who cannot get over looking at the similarities between the Ang Probinsyano’s Lily Ann Cortez character and Kakegurui’s Yumeko Jabami.

The comparison started when Caira Kim, an anime fan substantiated by the number of anime pictures posted on her Facebook account, shared what she found out on June 7.

“Hanga na talaga ako kay Coco Martin. Akalain mo [na] na-invite niya si Yumeko na magcrossover sa Ang Probinsyano,” she said.

[I am already filled with admiration for Coco Martin. To think that he was able to invite Yumeko to crossover on Ang Probinsyano.]

“I want to gamble more and more!” Kim stressed, perhaps hinting more similarities between the two.

According to the Fandom website, Yumeko (villain) in the manga series is one of the students of Hyakkaou Private Academy who’s determined to teach her schoolmates what a “high roller” really looks like.

Hywhzo’akkaou is an institution for the privileged in Japan and the curriculum focuses on the art of the deal or reading opponents. Hence, the common activity in the institution is gambling.

Lily, on the other hand, is a businesswoman. She is involved in illegal activities. Her story is still mysterious and she seems to be plotting a match between Hipolito (villain) and the Hidalgo administration (hero).
