It is important to take good care of our health. Not just our physical health but also our mentality.
In lieu with this, it is pivotal to know about interpersonal and intrapersonal communication.
Interpersonal communication is a process by which people are exchanging information through verbal and non-verbal communication. Interpersonal exists between two people who are in the process of face-to-face communication.
While on the other hand, intrapersonal communication is about the process of your own language or thought. To simply put it, intrapersonal communication is about you talking to yourself.
These two types of personal communication is important to our well-being. It helps us communicate and understand other people. It also helps us reflect on our inner beings.
There are times that we want to be surrounded by other people especially friends so we can exchange ideas, express ourselves, or we just want to socialize.
However, there are times when we just want to be alone so we could thoroughly process our thoughts to make important decisions.
Moreover, there are instances wherein we want to be alone so we could gri
eve by ourselves and just let go of burdensome feelings.
Just recently, a study was featured on the World Economic Forum.
This study was conducted by researchers from the Singapore Management University and the London School of Economics and Political Science.
The study focuses on how we react to circumstances as our ancestors would, having evolved psychologically based on our ancestors’ needs in the old days.
While gathering information from 15,000 participants, researchers found out that people, in general, are not a fan of huge crowds.
A person with an average intelligence tend to feel negative on huge groups, but those who are smarter enjoys being with a company and they can adapt better.
Surprisingly, it was observed that those who are considered really intelligent finds happiness by being alone. According to the study: More intelligent individuals experience lower life satisfaction with more frequent socialization with friends.
There are different factors explaining the conclusion of the study. Apparently, being alone gives highly intelligent people a lot of time to think, to work for a specific goal, or to just recharge from all the thinking and worrying that life gives us.
Well, whatever study or research there may be, it just goes to show that being alone is not necessarily a sad thing. There are also perks on being just by yourself.
