Are you one of those commuters who’s already prone to EDSA traffic?
Or do you still do facepalm every time you travel from north to south or vice versa via EDSA while being stucked in a heavy traffic?
Due to this nationwide predicament, President Rodrigo Duterte promises that by December this year, traffic situation will be improved.
The president reiterated that travel time from Cubao to Makati could be cut to at least 5 minutes.
In a television interview over Pastor Apollo Quiboloy’s Sonshine Media Network, the President said, “You don’t have to worry about traffic… Cubao and Makati will be about five minutes na lang.”
“You just wait. Ayaw kong mag-ano —but things will improve… maybe God willing, December smooth sailing na,” he added.
Since assuming presidency, solving the traffic situation especially in Metro Manila is among Duterte’s propaganda.
He said it’s good he went to China to attend the Belt and Road Forum.
There he talked with Chinese President Xi Jinping on infrastructure projects under the government’s Build Build Build program.
In addition, the Department of Public Works and Highways said that major infrastructure projects are underway to help traffic conditions.
Among these projects are in the metropolis; the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 (MMSS3) and North (NLEX) and South Luzon (SLEX) Expressways connector road project.
In order for the president to fulfill his promise to correct flaws in our country’s traffic system, the administration even pushed for granting him emergency powers.
But several lawmakers opposed a proposal to give him emergency powers.
According to Sen. Grace Poe, granting emergency powers would just be another source of corruption.
Meanwhile, let’s wait and see.
