Vice Ganda surprised the viral lola who finished senior high school at 80 years old.
As part of It’s Showtime’s Lenten special, they featured the inspiring story of Salvacion Flores Nacario also called as “Lola Sally.”
Lola Sally was visited by Vice Ganda in her home in Makati City. The viral lola shared how she goes to school everyday in the hopes of achieving her dream of graduating.
Lola Sally said, “Madaling lokohin ang walang pinag-aralan. Gusto ko talaga matapos ang pag-aaral ko kahit matanda na ako, kakayanin ko.”
Vice Ganda couldn’t help but be impressed with Lola Sally’s determination.
He said, “Nahiya ako kasi nung may panahon akong mag-aral, na malakas ako sa pangangatawan ko, inaksaya ko iyong pagkakataon na iyon, ‘di ba? Samantala ‘yung ale, naghahabol.”
Lola Sally went to Fort Bonifacio High School in Makati City everyday. Her class advisor Abner Ubiña said that the elderly student is diligent and always comes to school ahead of her classmates.
Lola Sally shared that she quit school decades ago to take care of her mother. She was the eldest among the siblings, and she carried the responsibility of helping the family.
She later on married a military man and had 10 children. Lola Sally’s dream of being a military nurse was shelved when she built a family. But decades later and amidst everyone’s surprise, she decided to go back to school.
Finally, on her graduation day, Lola Sally looked proud as she wore her graduation toga.
After her big day, she watched It’s Showtime live and met the rest of the hosts. She also received furniture and gifts from Vice.
Vice Ganda shared her insights on Lola Sally’s story.
He said, “Hindi rin sapat na dahilan na matanda na tayo para mawalan tayo ng pag-asa.”
“Hindi sapat na dahil na matanda na tayo para isuko ang lahat. Matanda na tayo pero buhay pa tayo,” he added.
