Throwback: Eddie Mesa, the ‘Elvis Presley of PH’

Elvis Presley is undeniably one of the most iconic performers worldwide–but did you know that the Philippines has our own “Elvis Presley”, too?

In the Facebook group Memories of Old Manila, one of the members posted about Eddie Mesa, the actor who was dubbed as the “Elvis Presley of the Philippines”. Well, moreso when he was younger.

The post featured a photo of Mesa and a photo of Presley. A lot of members were amazed over the resemblance of the singer-actor – who was very famous in the 1950s – to the latter.

“OMG, Eddie Mesa is so handsome. He is more good looking than Elvis. I wish Filipino stars are still as good looking as him,” AV commented.

“Hairstyle, age, and being star–yes, do’n sila may similarities,” GT said.

While those who have more knowledge about the iconic singer-actor answered questions from other members.

Eddie Mesa, or Eduardo de Mesa Eigenmann in real life, is a former singer-actor who is married to actress Rosemarie Gil — and the father of actors Michael de Mesa, Mark Gil, and Cherrie Gil.

Moreover, Eddie and Rosemarie have 13 grandchildren, most of whom have followed in their footsteps professionally: Ryan, Geoff, and AJ (Michael’s sons) and Gabby, Sid (Timmy), Andi, and Maxene Eigenmann (Mark’s children from different women).
