During the launch of the refreshed “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” campaign, Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat revealed that President Rodrigo Duterte expressed his interest in offering Gray the position of “tourism envoy” or ambassador.

Sec. Romulo-Puyat said, “He actually said that after her (Gray’s) term, [he] wants her to be like an envoy for tourism — tourism ambassador because she’s really been…even before she won as Miss Universe she was already promoting our country and so it’s but fitting.”

Gray met the President back in December during her courtesy call in the Palace after winning the Miss Universe 2018 crown.

The tourism secretary shared that Gray promoted the Philippines very well. She remarked, “When Ms. Gray walked and emerged victorious on the Miss Universe stage, not only did she highlight her strength as a woman, more importantly, she showed the universe the pride of the Philippines through the video clips promoting our country’s diverse culture and beautiful destinations.”

During the Miss Universe competition, Gray’s videos on the different places and culture in the Philippines quickly went viral. Gray shared about the origins of “parol”, arts in Mindanao and even the resilience of the Filipinos during the typhoon Yolanda.

Romulo-Puyat said, “As Catriona herself said, she represents the 104 million Filipinos… We look forward to continuing and strengthening our collaboration with her in the coming year.”

The secretary revealed that she is slated to meet the beauty queen next week for a possible collaboration on the promotion of Philippines’ tourist attractions.
