The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will hold a summit aimed at teaching school children proper waste management through games and several fun-filled activities.
In a Facebook post, the MMDA said the Kiddie Solid Waste Management Summit 2018 will be held in Pasig City on December 10.
“Teaching proper waste disposal can be fun and easy. We would like to cultivate a positive attitude among children towards the practice of solid waste management through activities we have prepared,” Elsie Encarnacion, MMDA Solid Waste Management Office head, said.
Encarnacion said they are expecting more than 600 Grade 3 to Grade 6 students coming from different schools in Metro Manila to attend the summit at the Pasig City Sports Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. She said they will do away with the usual lectures to make the summit fun and enjoyable for the kids.
The one-day summit promises to be an avenue for the young school children to enjoy while learning proper garbage disposal and recycling.
“We will create an exciting, interactive and engaging atmosphere for the students,” Encarnacion said.
There will be booths and stations that feature games and other creative activities such as eco-bricking, anti-littering, shoot that waste, basura patrol, pledge wall, poster-making contest, dice the materials, erase waste, unscramble, bingo basura.
There will also be a buy-back center where summit attendees can exchange recyclable trash for various items.
