Aside from the free school supplies, rubber shoes, school uniforms and many more, Makati public school children can add free field trips to the perks they enjoy.
Makati City Mayor Abby Binay confirmed that thousands of school children from Makati will get to avail of the free educational field trips provided by the local government.
Mayor Binay announced that they allocated P100 million in this year’s city budget to cover the cost of implementing off-campus activities. As part of continuing efforts to develop “globally competitive Makatizens”, the free educational field trips fall under their Talent Optimization Programs for Students (TOPS) of the Department of Education-Makati (DepEd-Makati).
Mayor Binay said, “As I have vowed from the start of my term as mayor, my administration will strive to provide cutting edge and relevant education for the youth of Makati, at no cost to them or their parents and guardians.”
Mayor Binay added that it’s important to support the children’s thirst for knowledge. She said, “I believe that the early years of education is the ideal time for children to be allowed to explore and learn from the things they discover firsthand outside the classroom and school grounds. By creating a link between the concepts taught to them and how these apply in the real world, we will optimize their potential for learning.”
She also gave assurances that they will ensure the safety of the students in the places they plan to visit.
Last November, 3,175 Makati school children enjoyed a fun day at Kidzania Manila with Mayor Binay and Congressman Luis Campos. Next on their list of educational field trips include places such as Manila Ocean Park, Luneta Park, Intramuros, and Barasoain Church and Mind Museum in Bulacan.
