- The MMDA is eyeing total ban of provincial buses terminals along EDSA
- The agency wants to remove the bus terminals by January 2019
- Duterte ordered the MMDA to close down all provincial buses terminals along EDSA
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is hoping that by January next year, all provincial bus terminals along the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) will be removed.
MMDA General Manager Jose Arturo Garcia Jr. said the total removal of provincial buses terminals that obstruct traffic in the Metro Manila’s main thoroughfare will result in a smoother and faster traffic flow. He also mentioned that President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the MMDA to close down all provincial bus terminals along EDSA.
According to the Manila Bulletin, Garcia said the MMDA is coordinating with the Department of Transportation, and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board regarding the planned removal of the provincial bus terminals.
“Ang target namin is January talaga. I hope naaksyunan nila agad. I talked with DOTr Undersecretary for Road Transport Mark de Leon and LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra III. We must also talk with NLEX and SLEX. I’m already giving pressure to them. Sabi ‘ko nga: ‘Let’s do this’,” Garcia was quoted as saying during a televised interview.
“We really need to remove (the bus terminals) because the design of provincial buses is that they should only be in the outskirts of Metro Manila and what will operate inside are the city buses,” Garcia added.
