The council of Quezon City has approved on final reading an ordinance granting a 20-percent discount to solo parents at all food establishments in the city, ABS-CBN News shared.
This includes, according to GMA News, those foods bought inside a cafeteria, ice cream and refreshment parlor, carinderia, fast food chain, and snack center.
The discount, which is tax deductible, will be given every first and last Sundays of the month.
Solo parents discount, the council said, can be availed for a maximum restaurant bill of P2,000.00.
A solo parent is somebody who is either legally separated, had a marriage annulled, left by his/her wife/husband, or those who were not married; provided that the child is in his/her custody and he/she works solely for the child.
Solo parents include those who are widowed, a husband/wife is in jail, or with a mental incapacity.
Those who are playing the role as the head of the family and supports the child because the child’s true parents are gone or away are considered solo parents.
Solo parents, also, are those who gave birth to a child because of a sin committed against the mother.
The ordinance aims to help ease the expenses of the parents when eating at restaurants, especially during special events of their children.
This can be availed through a “Solo Parent ID” which can be applied for at the city’s social services department.
