All public school teacher’s and non-teaching personnel of the Department of Education (DepEd) will receive a P3,000 bonus as part of its founding anniversary celebration in December.
DepEd will mark its 155th anniversary on December 20.
According to the Journal, the giving of bonus was first announced by DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones in Ormoc City in Leyte during the celebration of World Teachers’ Day last October 5. She reaffirmed it on Saturday, October 26, in a meeting with the Alliance of Concerned Teachers-Philippines and with members’ of Deped’s Executive Committee.
Undersecretary for Finance-Budget and Performance Monitoring Annalyn Sevilla said the teachers and non-teaching personnel will receive the amount on or before December 20.
“We’re already working on it, and preparing for it. Before December, we’ll make sure that it is already downloaded and available on or before DepEd’s anniversary,” Sevilla said.
The DepEd is also working to raise the teachers’ chalk allowance and is asking the Department of Budget and Management and the Civil Service Commission to create non-teaching positions to handle non-teaching tasks currently being handled by overworked public school teachers.
