- The LTFRB approved the P2 fare hike requested by transport groups in the NCR, Region III, and Region IV
- The fare hike shall take effect 15 days after the LTFRB decision is published in a newspaper of general circulation
- From the original P8, the new minimum fare will be P10
Transport groups welcomed the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board’s (LTFRB) approval of the P2 jeepney minimum fare hike in the National Capital Region, Region III and IV.
Roberto Martin, the president of Pasang Masda transport group, said the approval of the fare hike petition filed by transport groups in September last year is most welcome as it would translate to additional earnings for the drivers.
In an interview, Martin said their drivers usually earn P300 daily but with the fare increase, the drivers are expected to take home P500 for being on the road the whole day.
The minimum fare for the first four kilometers in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Southern Tagalog were raised to P10 from the original P8 as the LTFRB made permanent the provisional P1 fare hike granted on July 6, 2018, and added another P1 increase.
As per an Inquirer story, the decision was signed on Thursday, October 18, 2018, by LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra III and Board Member Ronaldo Corpus. Board member Aileen Lizada dissented.
According to the LTFRB, the new minimum fare shall take effect 15 days after the decision is published in a newspaper of general circulation. Drivers shall not impose the new fare increase until then.
“Please be informed that the LTFRB will release an official copy once the document is signed by the LTFRB Executive Director and marked as docketed. We request drivers to wait until the LTFRB releases the official document on the fare hike before charging any additional fare,” the LTFRB said in a statement.
