Duterte’s hometown now caters direct flights to Hongkong, and vice versa

President Rodrigo Duterte’s hometown Davao City, now has a direct flight to Hongkong after Cathay Pacific launched its service on Sunday.

According to GMA News, as per the airline’s website, Cathay Pacific’s regional airline Cathay Dragon will be serving passengers from Hongkong to Davao every 12:35 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays — while passengers’ arrival in Davao will be at 3:50 p.m. on the same day.

The flight from Davao to Hongkong, meanwhile, leaves at 4:50 p.m. and arrives in Hongkong at 8:00 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

One-way flights cost starts at Php9,000 or $168.

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary for Aviation and Airports Manuel Antonio Tamayo said, based on Politiko Mindanao‘s post, he’s very happy that the people of Hongkong and the people of Davao and Manila are finally connected through the new route.

He added, the connection will surely open opportunities for the city of Davao and Hongkong in terms of trade and tourism.

Passengers, moreover, as published by ABS-CBN News, showed excitement going to Hongkong.

A family interviewed by its news team said the travel is less expensive since it is a direct flight.

The direct flight is the third international flight available at the Davao airport. The other destinations are Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

CAAP Davao said there are ongoing discussions for additional direct flights from Davao City.
